Grief refers to the feelings and behaviors we experience after a loss.
We all encounter loss in our lives. Most commonly we think of loss as death; however, losses can include a variety of things like the loss of a relationship, job, or ability to function. Everyone experiences grief differently. However, sometimes grief can become complicated grief.
Symptoms of complicated grief include:
- Intense sadness
- Prolonged mourning that may be interfering with your personal or professional life
- Feelings of emptiness
- Difficulty engaging in happy moments or memories
- Anger or bitterness
- Avoidance, withdrawal or disbelief
Through grief counseling a client can learn to accept the reality of the loss, process the pain of the grief, adjust to a world without the loss, and find an enduring connection while embarking on a new life.
