Individual therapy (psychotherapy/counseling) allows clients a safe and confidential environment to process and explore behaviors, feelings and beliefs and identify personal goals and areas in their life they wish to grow or resolve concerns.
An eclectic approach is often used in order to identify the best strategies to meet an individual's goals. Various strategies for therapy include, but are not limited to the following modalities.
CBT is a form of therapy allowing clients to become more insightful. It aims to assist clients in identifying patterns in thinking, beliefs and behaviors, working to restructure, reframe and develop new coping skills.
DBT serves to assist clients in learning to live in the moment, while developing healthy coping skills. DBT focuses on developing skills for mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal relationships.
Mindfulness allows clients to focus on the present moment and develop an awareness of the present. Mindfulness allows one to notice and accept feelings, thoughts and bodily sensations non-judgmentally. A regular mindfulness practice can help to regulate emotions and give enlightenment on a new perspective.
Solution Focused Therapy aims to empower clients to identify hope, set goals and instill confidence while achieving positive outcomes.
In most therapy, the clinician and client will work to develop a set of coping skills. Coping skills can include improved communication skills, relaxation techniques, meditation, and many other strategies to decrease stress and inner conflict.
Using art can allow a client to express themself in a way other than words. Art has been found to help relieve stress and express emotions while boosting self esteem.
Play therapy allows clients, specifically children, and clinicians to use play while exploring psychological concerns and healing.
